Italo, active in the field of high-speed rail and long-distance passenger transport by road, undertook the renovation project for the new headquarters in Rome. Montval contributed to the project in order to enhance and identify the entrance areas. The project envisaged an intervention characterized by a white volume extending along the entire length of the L-shaped building, with the intention of creating a harmonious connection between the two entrances, while at the same time representing an element of discontinuity. This new volume contrasts sharply with the colour scheme of the existing building, thus preserving its identity and reinforcing the visual contrast. The cladding extends over the colonnade and roof of the entrance porch and is characterised by a sloping perimeter band, giving visual balance to the entire building. Particular attention was paid to the choice of light tone and temperature, to ensure a harmonious integration with the existing lighting on the building facades. At the entrances signs with “Italo” logo have been installed; those were designed to enhance access and make them immediately recognizable. Large and highly visible, they are characterised by the sloping development of each boxed single letters, with a luminous front, which enhances their visual impact, especially in the evening hours. Realized in 2021, the project rigorously followed the initial idea, materialising on time and within budget. We ensured continuity between concept and realisation, following every step of the process. Porch lighting, realized by linear lighting bodies, evokes the railway iconography of the track. Thanks to an accurate lighting study, it guarantees appropriate ground lighting for the walkway, creating suggestive plays of light that evoke the movement and dynamism of trains in transit.
